Sri Ganapathi Sachachidananda (SGS) Vagdevi Centre for the Rehabilitation of Communication Impaired (unit of Avadhoota Datta Peetam, Mysore) is a charitable trust working for the communication impaired individuals such as hearing impaired (HI), mentally challenged (MR), Learning Disability (LD), Autism (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The center has been actively engaged in the area of diagnosis, awareness, intervention, research , counseling with the above population and teachers training program for special educators/regular school educators . The center runs a free speech and hearing clinic catering to the needs of children, adults and geriatric population. The center is offering and free education to hearing impaired children from Nursery to X Standard (S.S.L.C.) in English and Kannada medium. The center is also involved in mother –infant stimulation program where mothers of hearing impaired children from various parts of the country undergo training and it offers post-cochlear implant therapy with excellent infrastructure. The center is well equipped with a spacious building in a serene green peaceful environment with well trained staff. The center is headed by Dr. Shantha Radhakrishna, Speech Language Pathologist and Audiologist who has worked extensively in India and abroad. Her published work on “Datta Methodology for Enhancing Learning” has attracted the attention of special educators. This methodology is extensively implemented in schools for the hearing impaired in Karnataka. She is a recipient of state and national award.
