Abhaya School was started in 2010 by Mrs. Sindhuma, who is a homeo-physician and a parent in Hyderabad. Set up in an independent house, the school intakes students with ASD, ADHD, Down syndrome, Cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, global developmental delays across the severity range and age. Their mission is to provide special education and vocational training to the special needs individuals, so that they can attain their full potential to lead satisfying life and be as independent as possible. There are around 25 students and the average teacher student ratio is 1:8. The school has physio-equipment, sensory room and a vocational unit for the older students. Functional academics includes topics such as counting, time, money, traffic signals which are everyday essentials. The school provides physiotherapy, sensory therapy, speech therapy and conducts regular assessments for progress of students every three months. Older students are trained in vocational activities like making Diyas, Rakhis and paper bags across the year. Few students are being trained for data entry in collaboration with Amba foundation, Bangalore.
