Abhilasha School in Hyderabad was started in 2008 by a parent Hima Bindu, a special educator. The school’s mission is to provide the highest quality education and therapeutic programming available to the children with disabilities. They aim to support parents in their understanding of their children’s needs and abilities. The school currently hosts 6-8 students, mainly with cerebral play or multiple disabilities. The average teacher student ratio is 1:6. Physiotherapy is offered daily and speech therapy thrice a week. Assistive technology such as walkers, wheelchairs, handles or grips to assist holding, therapeutic listening for sustained attention, ayurvedic massage therapy to strengthen muscles and family counselling are some of the additional services provided. The school has physio-equipment, lunch room, wheel chair friendly bathrooms and sand pit. The team at Abhilasha comprises of a neurologist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, visiting physiotherapist and psychologist.
